After my last post I asked people in my community group about waiting for God.  “It seems to me that waiting for God is an active not passive thing.  How do you see it?  What does it involve?”  Immediately a friend of mine said, “It’s like fishing.”

Now I’m no expert in fishing (I’ve never tried it) but here’s what he meant.  When you’ve cast your line, waiting for a bite demands your attention.  You can’t just fall asleep or walk away.  You have to stay focussed and concentrate on what’s going on.  You wait with hope, expectation.  You’re switched on.  And when something happens that requires you to do something; you’re ready for it.  And you do it.

One of the reasons I love small groups?  Because everyone there can have extraordinary wisdom and understanding.
